The girly girl trope

Recently, there have been loads of media representations of girly girls, whose looks and behaviors are mostly defined by their... "girlyness," which, because of some terrible misunderstanding, became an offensive and even pejorative term, used to somehow belittle real-life women.

Who is a girly girl ?

Nowadays, a girly girl is mostly perceived as the opposite of a tomboy(another popular trope that is used to help people get better at dividing women into groups because of how they choose to dress; we're probably going to dive deeper into that topic in one of my next articles).

The girly girl, in contrast to the tomboy, is known for her love of the color pink, her passion for designer shoes, and the fact that she would never appear in public without a ton of expensive make-up.

And the main problem is that the girly girl is supposed to be dumb. So if you ever get caught wearing a pink dress more than twice a week, or, God forbid, opt to wear make-up every once in a while, then congratulations, you're a girly girl, who, thanks to media representations, is expected to be incapable of properly functioning without male assistance. And since you're one of the GG squad, you probably are not a rocking scientist, and people around you are going to inevitably assume that the only thing you've ever been good at is... shopping and make-up.

The main idea of this article
So, where were we? Oh yeah, we were talking about the fact that your pink dress makes you look stupid, right. (It doesn’t ).

All I want to say is that it doesn’t really matter what you're wearing or going to go for a pair of gorgeous hills instead of your favorite sneakers(which without any doubts are able to make you look great as well ), or you wear your red lipstick every time you go out because it makes you feel good. These things don’t define you. They really don’t. The fact that you enjoy walking around, wearing your pink mini-skirt doesn't mean that you're a shallow immature girl without a proper sense of morality. I really wish that people would stop making assumptions about women's inner world based off of their wardrobe. People need to once and for all realize that a Nobel Prize laureate can be the "girlieast" girl they've ever seen in their lives and that wouldn't magically make her brain stop inventing ideas that make our world a better place to live. Girly doesn’t equal "unsmart", and it undoubtedly has nothing to do with immaturity either, being girly simply means that you enjoy vibrant colors. It means that you are full of life. It means that you wear make up because it's beautiful and that you understand that there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
